Pattern Drafting With Cal Patch
When I was asked to write about Creative Bug workshops, the first one to come to my mind was the pattern drafting one with Cal Patch. It has been on my wish list for some time, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to take it.
I have only watched Chapter two: Pattern Drafting Basics so far, and I am impressed.
I will just say that I highly recommended. Here is why:
Every body loves free patterns, right?
But the thing is, there is no perfect ''standard'' pattern that it will make clothes to fit perfectly and smoothly on your body.
When we talked about patterns, there is already a standard concept/measurement on them, just like in clothing from your local store.
No matter how professional the pattern maker/designer is, you will need to adjust it to fit as you want it.
This workshop embraces just that by teaching you how to create your own patterns based on your size. Something that I called ''your closet, your fit''

With this workshop, Cal Patch has been able to introduce people into the pattern drafting process with easiness and simplicity. Who knew that making a sleeve it was as easy as drawing an ice-cream cone?
The images you are looking here are actual screenshots from Chapter 2. In this part, Cal is explaining how to make a sleeve.
The surprise
When I decided to start this workshop, I knew Cal will cover the basics: bodice and sleeves. I was happy with it, because it is always nice to have the professional point of view when drafting your patterns.
I was surprised to see that she covered the peter pan collar. I have to admit, I have always wanted to make a girl's gathered dress with this type of collar, but I did not know how to draft it. Until now :)

Overall, I am very pleased with the Pattern Drafting workshop. I love how inclusive the camera movements are. IF you see on the screenshots, the images are clear, student's friendly and easy to follow.
I am now going for the Chapter 3. Wish me luck!
